Project 14
THE
AMP3 PROJECT AT DWR CYMRU/WELSH WATER INVOLVING ROCKALL STAFF. The
AMP3 (Asset Management Plan) involved the improving of data held in Welsh Water's
AIS (Asset Information System). The areas that Rockall staff focused on were: | To
digitise previously unmapped sewers and water mains. | | To
improve in the date of installation for water and sewerage pipes. |
The
project carried out by the AIS team during 1997 and 1998 was designed to improve
the amount and quality of data available on the system for Operational staff and
Councils. The first of these projects started in September 1997. The main
bulk of this work involved digitising pre 1036 public sewers from plans annotated
by the Councils. These "Section 24" sewers were previously unmapped, but formed
a substantial part of the sewerage system maintained by Welsh Water. This
project was completed on time in April 1998. The completion on target was largely
attributed to staff willing to work additional hours to complete the task. In
addition, any other missing water or sewerage networks were added to the AIS.

The
second major project started in April 1998. This was to bring the data attributed
to the laying of water and sewerage pipes to within a specified accuracy of +/-
10 years. This would give a better indication of the state of pipes in any given
area. Due to the size of the project, it was deemed necessary to start an evening
shift to complete the task, additional temporary staff were brought in. at its
peak, there were 15 Rockall staff working on the project. In addition to the main
tasks above, some staff also assisted with the every-day maintenance of the asset
information, which involved inputting updates received from Operational staff
and Councils alike. The end result is that Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water can now have
improved confidence in the accuracy and completeness of its asset records.
